Getz/Gilberto (1963)
Musi app and (my) Samsung bluetooth speaker that I took from my sister
in the grocery store and kitchen
buying ingredients and cooking
whoever with me at that time
transforms wherever I am into Bali resort although I've never been there. sundress. barefoot and refreshing floor. crashing waves. breeze. the scent of sun block and candle. And this song.

** Audio project **
- format: mp4, mp3, say where it is. give direct link to it
3min - 5min
- don't need to persuade
entertainment, story, interview, music, persuade, mash up, meditation, commercial ads, daily vlog,
-------
1. pick a purpose
2. how to achieve that purpose with the specific audience and audience's expectation and literacy level already in mind
3. look out the demographics
"Alexa's stats" these are
allusions(referencing, calling back to) - symbolism, signaling
4. narration, captions, visual cues
-------
look at the examples on website
the uncanny(deja vu)
-------
leave audience's reception
take away an element, leaves rooms for interpretation.
ambiguity in sound is important in Audio project!
Program: audacity, Ong reading - read rationale to find programs
sounds exist in fluidity
motion and frequency of sound
ways in which noise affect
foreground of sound(speech) vs. background of speech(sets the tone for the foreground) - layering sound, how silence is used
show the original
mrs. doubtfire
associations of sound and genre expectations
that genre has specific elements and convention
------
**Discussion Lead**
reading that is (due that day)
slides
pull quotes, cite
how it relates to projects
make up an attendance question / worksheet
email how
6/27
utterances (cultural identity marker)
-could be speech, expression of sound
-more about the sentiment and tone rather than content
-even though content doesn't make sense, tone and sentiment of the utterance can still have a purposeful affect
-semiotics(the act of making meaning) in sound are often attached to genre literacy
----
"all sensation takes place in time, but sound has a special relationship to time unlike that of the other fields that register in human sensation"
"the consciousness of each human person is totally interiorized, known to the person from the inside and inaccessible to any other person directly from the inside"
selective listening based on positionality
externalize(utterances) vs. internalize vs. interiorize
uptake and transfer
rhetorical(editing) control of what to highlight and emphasize(e.g confidence) allows you to have the best chances to direct audience's reception
awareness of self + of potential audience reaction
commands, literal signaling are easier, but instructing me to go across medium without the use of medium is hard
Team Dingus
Interiorize & Internalize
- Will I become uncomfortable talking about race? What kind of colors will I add to the race section? What experience will lead me to add those colors? How will I internalize race?
Potential Audience Reaction
- When I was doing the visual project, I was oblivious to audience. I should keep in mind of the purpose and audience.
- Showing that I am not ready is unnecessary. Not showing will direct our team to be perceived as confident. It is a good fake!
About the game
The game was fun! One of the things I found interesting is that a deposition includes God. The word made me think that the statement is a famous quote from Bible. Since the vast majority believes in God, I am guessing that it is okay to put God in the statement or it was so natural to do so.
7/1
**Rationale**
- vary sentence structure
- quote sandwich: quote should never be on its own at the beginning or at the end of the paragraph. not with the word 'that'
claim ascertain diverge (NO: say state)
- click "don't add space.." double spaced
- intact citation
- add concepts into the theory section. should show the ways in which your artifact engages (extend, disprove, disconnect) in a rhetorical conversation or major concepts. contextualize!
- citation: hanging indent, page number
- call the action

- the multiple sensory modes associated with sound: seen heard felt
contextualizing sound. transferring space.
- Embodied Audiences: multimodal listening requires composers to consider how their sonic compositions will affect embodied audiences
level of engagement. often comes with higher interactions with the sensory modes.
being present
- challenging compulsory(unconscious, don't realize that you are using) senses. re-educating. hyper awareness. self-aware
- Ceraso said students should unlearn listening habits
- Multimodal listening practices enable composers to approach sonic composition as a means of designing holistic experiences: not limited to one medium
- "A bombardment of environmental sound results in kinds of low quality experiences that encourage ear-centric listening." (Ceraso, 111)
- disruptive sounds and disruptive silence
- "The multimodal composition classroom is in need of listening practices that can deepen students' knowledge about the unique ways that sound works as a mode of composition and an affective force" (Ceraso, 114)
Call the action: My project respons to ... (extend)
- sound diet. single sound / meditation ground in a context/space.
- digital tech doesn't compare to real, authentic listening experiences (embodied listening)
- digitally mediated sounds are different from the real sound
- listening becomes more powerful when listeners utilize multiple senses to surround themselves in the experience
7/2
-Watch the video and answer how it's different. themes, cultural..
go across medium
hearing centric world and make into visual ones
difference is that cultural implications (method, purpose)
"literal version of seeing music"
community(qualitative)
universal
what bad interpreters actually can cause
what happens when translation goes wrong when you have to rely on someone else
"people's lives are on stake"
tools (quantitative)
-Which one is more important?
I prefer ted talk. It relates to deaf people by telling how communication between them and hearing community is supposed be.
---
lo-fi: constant tone
hi-fi: siren
foley stage
expecatations of environment and sound pairing
disrupts and requestion your positioning
7/3
- dehumanizing
mediated and automated from distance
- chronotopic laminations: acroos time, space, history
each time something(computer) is mediated, it gains more and loses some.
still holds the history
- share(auto-tune) - t pain - ... : building on top of layers
- shadow conversation: conversations that happened around
t pain having shadow conversation with share
- when you use a tool or incorporate in artifact, you are attaching yourself to implications and history. calling upon the history.
